“There was a man named Jabez who was more honorable than any of his brothers. His mother named him Jabez because his birth had been so painful. He was the one who prayed to the God of Israel, “Oh, that you would bless me and expand my territory! Please be with me in all that I do, and keep me from all trouble and pain!” And God granted him his request.”
1 Chronicles 4:9-10

Jabez was an ordinary man, lived a normal life like everyone else…but something set his life apart from the others. His prayer is located in 1 Chronicles in the middle of a very long list of names, but somehow in the midst of this list, Jabez gets a little spotlight on his life. He didn’t settle for his ordinary life, in fact, he asked God for more. He prayed a prayer that was bigger than himself, a prayer that begged for the extraordinary, a prayer that demanded the divine to be a living and active part of his life.
He prayed to be blessed INDEED and to be a part of claiming this world for God’s Kingdom. He prayed for God’s continual guidance and for protection against anything that would hinder him from doing God’s work.
We should all pray like Jabez. Pray to claim the power that we have in Jesus Christ, to pray bigger than ourselves and ask God to be a part of His plans to win this world over to Christ.
Our lives are bigger than us… everyday has the potential to be annointed with divine appointments to build the Kingdom of God.
So what are you waiting for….pray like Jabez!
