I have to admit, I have been quite the slacker with blogging. Its not like I don’t have ideas to write about, I just find it hard to commit the time to doing it.  So, my brand new New Years Resolution will be to start blogging more.  I think it’ll be both therapeutic and enlightening!  Here’s the first of 2010:

“So we’re not giving up. How could we! Even though on the outside it often looks like things are falling apart on us, on the inside, where God is making new life, not a day goes by without his unfolding grace. These hard times are small potatoes compared to the coming good times, the lavish celebration prepared for us. There’s far more here than meets the eye. The things we see now are here today, gone tomorrow. But the things we can’t see now will last forever.”

2 Corinthians 4:16-18

Sidenote: I have never actually read The Message version of the Bible before, but after reading a few verses it I can say that I’m very sorry I never read it before!  It seems to speak to you in an “up in your face” kinda way…which is actually quite refreshing and I highly recommend it.

I love the words in this verse…small potatoes.  I have never actually read the words, small potatoes, in the Bible before, but here it makes so much sense.  We all have troubles in our lives that seem huge to us.  They seem to overwhelm us.  But those things are just small potatoes to God.  They are nothing in comparison to the blessings that we will experience when we follow God’s will in those struggles and fight through them with Him.

It reminds me of a sermon I heard from Steven Furtick at Elevation Church.  He was explaining the “Dips” in our lives that we experience; the times when we are just simply down and out.  The greatest point he made was that the “Dips” in your life, are comparable to a Valley.  Yes the valley exists, but it exist between 2 mountain peaks.  Meaning, the “Dips” in our lives usually come after an outrageous high and will always be followed by an extreme high. We can be sure that although sometimes we will experience lows, God will always bring you out of it!

The worries in our lives are small potatoes in comparison to the wonderful blessings that God has in store for us later.  They are simply a valley that we must push through in order to reach another spectacular mountain top.
